The Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) at Stellenbosch University and the Center for Africa’s Resilience to Epidemics (CARE) at the Institut Pasteur de Dakar have announced the latest call for the African STARS Fellowship Programme. Supported by the Mastercard Foundation, this initiative is designed to equip the next generation of African leaders with advanced expertise in genomics, diagnostics, vaccine design, and biotechnology innovation to strengthen the continent’s health sector.
Fellowship Tracks
The programme offers two distinct pathways tailored to different career stages and goals:
- Advanced and Translational Training (ATT) Fellowship (4 Months): This track provides intensive training in advanced genomics for public health, genomic diagnostic design, and vaccine manufacturing. It is intended for early-career scientists and professionals looking for specialized technical training and leadership development in areas such as team management and strategic leadership.
- Young Professional Programme (YPP) Fellowship (12 Months): This track focuses on biotechnology innovation and entrepreneurship. It includes placements at commercial companies, industry partners, or innovation hubs. Fellows receive training in critical thinking, grantsmanship, project management, and effective communication, bridging the gap between research and industry.
